Promises for action following NDI10

Helen Milner, Managing Director UK online centres, writes:
"One of the great outcomes of the conference was a set of solid promises for action to get more people online not just in 2010 but beyond. Some fantastic ideas came out, including a Digital Neighbourhoods campaign to encourage people to Pass IT on to their neighbours, a commitment to get all of Britain's care homes online, and a promise from the Peabody Trust and Southern Housing to get all of their sheltered housing residents usi

Mind the (age) gap

Some random thoughts on those elusive older people who have never been online. I wonder if part of the problem is that the policies, support and materials are being developed in the main by young men. I'm not getting at you young men, but... :) often your starting point is off-beam when it comes to talking technology with older people, particularly older women.
Let's take explaining the keyboard as an example. If you grew up in the 60s, 70s or 80s, the chances are that every keyboard you

Hi Cathy,

Thanks for the info. Last year there was an informal get together at University of Westminster so that those staying over in London had a base for networking. I seem to remember it went on quite late!

Perhaps Vinopolis will be able to cater for this demand.

Hi Cathy,
Thanks for inviting me as a friend. I hope we can talk at NDI10. Incidentally do you know if there is going to be a social meeting on Wednesday evening?
Regards
David

Hi Cathy
Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to meeting you too at NDI10. I think this years conference is going to be the best yet and with the general election approaching it will be a great opportunity to put our views forward in advance of the manifesto's.
All the best

Hi Cathy,
Thank you for your kind words. It is so involving but it is getting easier now as people understand us:). I have never used the Radireverb, but I have been invited to other community Radios in Brighton but I am open to suggestions. Do you know if this is run by George Alexander Group? I will give it a try! The network has been useful thanks. I am actually organising the 1st ever International ICT conference to be held in one of the rural villages we are working in Sept 24/25 and we are going to use the network to announce our call for papers. We are hoping to get people on the 'spot'. IT skills is hoping to achieve what Iris is doing and I am hoping she can be one of the Key speakers- i.e the CDI experience.

Kindest regards
Edward

HI Cathy, thanks for getting in touch. There seems to be a great wealth of communities and people working in the Digital Engagement arena here, it's nice to be part of the community. I will update my profile and provide further info on Community Voices, which I think will be of great interest to the Digital Engagement community, particularl as we will be awarding grants in January. Hi Cathy,

Thanks, will try to add whenever I find something of interest, there's lot of familiar faces on here so now at least I won't worry I've spoken with one person but not another :)

Hi Cathy, thanks for the comment. Survivors Poetry promotes poetry by people who are survivors of mental distress; often this is a community who are socially and also digitally excluded. I volunteer there and am also looking out for other areas where I can get involved in digital inclusion initiatives (bit of a passion of mine!). I'm delighted that you've taken on the mantle here at digital engagement, good luck with it !
