Jesse Strang Online Potential

With every passing day, satelite internet is becoming a more viable solution to getting people online. I remember my experiences just a few years ago living in a pretty rural area of the country and only having one option for Internet service (which happened to be exhorbitantly priced). Today, nobody is really limited to the one option that their community may offer through traditional infrastructure. Though it doe… Continue

David Wilcox Digital Inclusion ten years ago

Looking back at old site of mine, I came across a A manifesto for online communities, written by a group of us back in 1999, and published by the BBC as part of its Webwise campaign. It's a sort of early unofficial digital inclusion plan. Here's the summary. (I've written a longer post

Marie Crandell The best coffee shop in town

Lunched with Mum and daughter today. We have Ladies Lunches, when all three generations of us females go out to lunch together and share sandwiches, cake and giggles. We met Mum at the mall and she looked rather harassed.

She sighed, “I have this letter from the Council about my refuse collection and I don’t understand it so I brought it along for you to look at. I tr

Paul Nash What do we expect from NDI10?

Having been to National Digital Inclusion for the last three years I'm looking for something that's grounded in people's experience. I accept that we have to have the politics, the funders have to have their day and the funded have to show progress but unlike three year's ago digital inclusion is much more mainstream.

This is an opportunity to meet, greet and share. I'm looking not just for successes I'm looking for lesson's learrned. Who achieved great outcomes for individuals

Robin Knowles Gordon Brown opening NDI10

While I think few of us could have expected the Prime Minister to be free to open the National Digital Inclusion Conference, given it is an hour or so before "Prime Ministers Questions" on Wednesday 10th March, I am very pleased to be able to confirm that he is pre-recording a "Welcome Speech" to delegates to start off our two days of debate and networking at NDI10.

He will be followed by the Digital Inclusion Minister, Stephen Timms MP who will speak from the platform after wh

Cathy Aitchison Mind the (age) gap

Some random thoughts on those elusive older people who have never been online. I wonder if part of the problem is that the policies, support and materials are being developed in the main by young men. I'm not getting at you young men, but... :) often your starting point is off-beam when it comes to talking technology with older people, particularly older women.
Let's take explaining the keyboard as an example. If you grew up in the 60s, 70s or 80s, the chances are that every keyboard you

sarah kate norman Hello World; My first blog post on de

I though I would make use of this space by making a posting and try to foster a bit of online engagement in the network. I would admit that I have naivety about the politics of digital engagement; I have come to this sector as I hit 30 up to which my career was as a computer programmer & new media developer & project manager. The ultimate jack-of-all-trades ... I moved from full time employment to return to education and was looking to do a masters in digital marketing communication bef… Continue
